Trackhouse Racing Welcomes Connor Zilisch to NASCAR Cup Series
Trackhouse Racing has confirmed a new multiyear agreement with rising star Connor Zilisch, positioning him to compete in the NASCAR Cup Series starting in 2026. This announcement comes on the heels of Daniel Suarez’s departure from the team, marking the end of the Mexican driver’s five-year tenure. Suarez’s exit was made public on July 1, and as of now, he has not secured a ride for the upcoming season.
A New Chapter for Trackhouse Racing
Connor Zilisch will join his new teammates, Ross Chastain, who drives the No. 1 car, and Shane van Gisbergen, who races the No. 88. Both Chastain and van Gisbergen are set to participate in the 2025 NASCAR Cup playoffs, creating a promising environment for Zilisch as he transitions into this prestigious series.
Zilisch has already made several appearances with Trackhouse Racing this season, piloting the No. 87 car. His best performance so far has been an impressive eleventh place at EchoPark Speedway in Atlanta, showcasing his potential to compete at a higher level.
A Dream Come True for Zilisch
"This day has been a dream of mine for a long time," expressed Zilisch during the press conference announcing his new role. He has been part of the Trackhouse developmental program since 2024, and this career leap into Cup racing aligns perfectly with his aspirations.
"Cup racing has always been my ultimate goal since I partnered with Chevrolet and Trackhouse. While I didn’t anticipate this opportunity arriving so quickly, I believe I’m ready for the challenge," Zilisch added. He acknowledged the hurdles he will face as he embarks on this journey as a full-time Cup driver, but with the backing of Trackhouse and Chevrolet, he feels confident in his decision.
Zilisch, who is known for his competitive spirit, stated, "I’m not going to make any bold predictions for success next year. My only promise is to give my all, absorb as much knowledge as possible, and enjoy the experience along the way!"
Support from Renowned Sponsors
The upcoming season will see Zilisch’s efforts supported by prominent sponsors Red Bull and WeatherTech. Although Suarez is vacating the No. 99 car, Trackhouse has yet to disclose which car number Zilisch will drive in 2026.
During the press conference, Zilisch was visibly moved as he shared his excitement about stepping into this new role with the team.
Zilisch’s Impressive Track Record
The 19-year-old is regarded as one of the top talents in the lower divisions of NASCAR. His impressive resume includes notable victories, such as class wins at the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the Sebring 12 Hours, in addition to his achievements in NASCAR.
Despite a stellar season in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, Zilisch’s journey has not been without its challenges. He faced a significant setback earlier this year when he sustained a back injury in a crash while leading at Talladega. This was followed by a collarbone fracture after a fall while celebrating a victory at Watkins Glen.
Despite these injuries, Zilisch has managed to clinch seven wins this season and currently holds the second position in the regular season standings. Interestingly, his latest victory came with the help of relief driver Parker Kligerman, who finished a race at Daytona on his behalf. Although Kligerman took the checkered flag, Zilisch will officially be credited with the win.
Team Owner’s Belief in Zilisch
Justin Marks, the owner of Trackhouse Racing, expressed his enthusiasm about Zilisch’s potential. "Connor is a remarkable talent that surfaces only every few decades," he stated. Marks has witnessed Zilisch’s growth from his early days racing go-karts at the Trackhouse Motorplex to beating seasoned competitors in Trans Am races.
"His ability to adapt quickly to various racing formats is impressive, and what he has accomplished with JR Motorsports in the Xfinity Series this season is nothing short of historic," Marks added.
Moreover, Marks emphasized Zilisch’s maturity and readiness for Cup racing, attributing part of his development to mentorship from former driver Josh Wise and Dr. Eric Warren at General Motors. "I speak for everyone at Trackhouse Racing when I say we have immense confidence in this young man," he concluded.
Preparing for the Cup Series
As Zilisch prepares for his debut as a full-time driver in the NASCAR Cup Series, he will need to adapt to the unique challenges of competing at this elite level. The Cup Series is known for its intense competition and high stakes, making it essential for drivers to be on top of their game both mentally and physically.
To ensure he is ready, Zilisch will likely continue to learn from his teammates and coaches. The experience gained from racing alongside established drivers like Chastain and van Gisbergen will be invaluable as he navigates the complexities of the Cup Series.
Zilisch’s preparation will also involve understanding the intricacies of race strategy, car setup, and managing tire wear throughout races. These elements are crucial for success and can make the difference between finishing in the top positions and merely competing.
The Road Ahead
As the 2026 NASCAR Cup Series season approaches, all eyes will be on Connor Zilisch as he embarks on this exciting new chapter of his racing career. The support from Trackhouse Racing, along with his undeniable talent and determination, positions him well for a promising future in the sport.
The world of NASCAR is known for its unpredictability, with each race presenting unique challenges. However, Zilisch’s resilience and commitment to improvement will be key factors in his journey. With a solid foundation and the right mindset, he aims to make a significant impact in his rookie season.
In the coming months, Zilisch will undoubtedly continue to draw on his past experiences, both positive and negative, to inform his approach as he steps into the spotlight. With the backing of a strong team and sponsors, he is poised to showcase his skills and passion for racing on one of the most prestigious stages in motorsports.
In summary, Connor Zilisch’s journey to the NASCAR Cup Series is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and the support of those around him. As he prepares to take on this new challenge, fans and fellow competitors alike are eager to see how this young talent will perform in the fast-paced world of NASCAR racing.
