"At the end of the day, you can only control what you can control. I’m pushing this car as hard as I can, and so is Christian. Clearly, Alex is performing at an exceptional level. We all anticipated that this season would be competitive."

"When one driver is at their peak, the rest of us must strive to reach our highest potential," he noted. "We had a car capable of finishing third, and that’s where we ended up. There’s nothing more we could have done at that point. I’ve learned through my experiences in Supercars that the championship involves a lot of ups and downs. We’ll be strong in areas where others might falter, and we need to take advantage of those opportunities."
The race at Barber Motorsports Park showcased McLaughlin’s ability to start strong, as he began on the front row next to Palou, who was on used softer alternate tires. I tried to push Alex from lap two, but he had a lot more speed. I didn’t feel I had the grip I needed. Nonetheless, the car was still performing well; it just wasn’t as quick as the two ahead of us."
Looking ahead, McLaughlin is confident that he and his team at Team Penske have identified areas for improvement that could help them challenge Palou’s dominance in future races. However, he opted to keep those strategies under wraps for now. "We’re focusing on pure speed," he indicated when asked about potential enhancements to his car. "The competition is executing effectively, laying down solid lap times, qualifying well, and strategizing during the race. Barry Wanser and the team behind the No. 10 car are doing an exceptional job, and Alex is undoubtedly one of the finest drivers I’ve ever met."
Despite acknowledging Palou’s prowess, McLaughlin is determined not to be deterred. "That doesn’t mean we can’t beat him," he insisted. "We are aware of the areas where we need to elevate our game. There are various aspects that I can’t disclose right now. Ultimately, we just need to keep pushing forward. Everyone faces a challenging race at some point, and we need to be ready to capitalize when those moments arise."
